Potrero Heights Park Community and Senior Center

The Potrero Heights Park Community and Senior Center was first opened in October 2012 with the purpose of providing services to the Unincorporated Community of South San Gabriel. The center welcomes residents from South San Gabriel and the surrounding communities such as Rosemead and Montebello and offers a wide range of services and social activities providing opportunities for daily learning, skills enhancement, community engagement, socialization, and healthy living for residents of all ages.

Tablet Instruction Provide assistance either on one-on-one to seniors or in a class setting
Public Access Computers/Computer Labs Computers and printers available for the public to use on their won or in a class setting; tablets available at some centers too
Zumba Zumba exercise class; varied intensities, dates and times
Chair Exercises All the execise is done while sitting and can include Yoga, stretch bands, etc.; varied dates and times
Walking Club Exercise class in which individuals walk an agreed route in group/individually; varied dates and times
Line Dancing All exercise is taught to fun music in which a partner is not needed; varied levels, dates and times

Health Screenings A variety of screenings are held at various centers; varying dates and times
Arts & Crafts Group that focuses on arts and crafts projects; varied dates and times
Painting Class for Adults Class teaches all levels to paint with different mediums; varied dates and times
Drawing Class participants learn to draw; varied dates and times

Creative Card Making Techniques Class participants are taught to create cards and share their techniques with each other; varied dates and times

Meditation Meditation techniques are taught to help manage stress; varied dates and times
Yoga Yoga class teaches different yoga poses/movements to the community; varied intensities, dates and times
Dance Fitness Music is incorporated to exercise to fun high-impact routines; varied dates and times
Exercise Exercise class such aerobics; varied dates and times
Hula Traditional hula music and movements are taught to tell a story when dancing while exercising; varied dates and times

Bingo/loteria Game for seniors to play; varying dates and times

Movie Day Community members gather to watch a movie together; varying dates/times through the month
Book Club Members gather at the center to read a chosen book and to discuss it

Voting Center/Drop-off Vote-by-Mail Accessible voting is made available to the community at the centers

MASH Meeting/ Neighborhood Watch Centers host a meeting that includes local agencies such as city/county representatives, police and highway patrol, and any other government/organization that needs to address a community concern or wishes to

Meeting Room Available Centers have meeting rooms available for organizations to use to provide a service to the community
Adult Protective Service Referrals Center staff are able to submit referrals for elder and dependent adult abuse and neglect on behalf of concerned community members
Information & Referral Provide information and refer community members to programs/services available
Translation Staff assist translate simple documents for the community
Form Assistance Staff help complete simple forms such as Utility CARE Discount, Jury Duty, etc.

Kid’s Game Day A day dedicated to playing games targeting youth and young children
Kid’s Bingo/Loteria Fun Bingo/Loteria game for youth and children to play at the center.
Kid’s Movie Day Center plays a movie for youth and children to watch; different movies are shown, varied dates and times
Kid’s Arts/Crafts Children create fun arts and crafts projects planned by center staff
Kids Cooking Recipes are selected to engage youth and teach them easy healthy meals; varied dates/times
Toy Loan Program DPSS Toy lending program that provides incentives to children in the community
