Los Nietos Community and Senior Service Center

Los Nietos Community and Senior Center was built in 1977 to serve the unincorporated Whittier area and other neighboring communities. In August 2020, the center underwent a complete renovation and is now a multipurpose facility designed to offer a wide range of services and social activities providing opportunities for daily learning, skills enhancement, community engagement, socialization, and healthy living for residents of all ages.

PROGRAM NAME DESCRIPTION
Public Access Computers/Computer Labs Computers and printers available for the public to use on their own or in a class setting; tablets available at some centers too.
REACH (Art & Craft Class) Individuals participate in the art class hosted by program staff.
REACH (Academic Classes) Classes that prioritze the academic needs of individuals with specials needs. Coordinated by REACH.
Zumba Offers older adults a lively and enjoyable workout, combining dance and aerobic movements set to energetic music, promoting fitness and fun in a social atmosphere.
Aerobics Offers older adults a fun and energetic workout designed to improve cardiovascular health, flexibility, and overall fitness in a supportive group environment.
Painting Class for Adults Class teaches all levels to paint with different mediums.
Crochet Crochet is taught from new to advanced learners.
Video Exercise Seniors exercise to a video at the center.
PROGRAM NAME DESCRIPTION
Emergency Food Assistance The center coordinates, organizes and distributes food to provide food to low-income individuals, including the elderly and persons with disabilities. Maintains and prepares monthly reports to be submitted to the Food Bank.
Congregate Meals Lunch meals on-site at centers for seniors.
PROGRAM NAME DESCRIPTION
Title V Centers serve as training sites for subsidized part-time work for unemployed older adults (age 55 or older). Center directors provide training and supervision.
Youth Training Program Provides at risk and disconnected youth with career exposure opportunities, resources and support to prepare them for future success centers are participating training sites.
PROGRAM NAME DESCRIPTION
Dances Events held at centers that include entertainment such as music to dance to and/or food, games, etc. This is an opportunity for community members to socialize with each other.
Karaoke Individuals sing to their favorite songs.
Bingo Game for seniors to play.
Movie Day Community members gather to watch a movie together; varying dates/times through the month.
PROGRAM NAME DESCRIPTION
Holiday Giveaways/Seasonal Celebrations Centers plan celebrations and activities around holidays (.eg. Halloween, Thanksgiving, & Christmas, etc.) that include giveaways and activities.
Back to School Backpack Giveaway School supplies and local resources provided to the community.
PROGRAM NAME DESCRIPTION
REACH (Self-Advocacy Meeting) Individuals meet to discuss events within the community, plan for activities, socialize, and discuss current events, etc. eaways and activities.
Senior Support Group Clubs (i.e., John F Kennedy Club / Pan Americano Club) Social Club that gathers regularly at the center to socialize, celebrate holidays, visit local attractions and sponsor community events.
PROGRAM NAME DESCRIPTION
Utility Assistance Center assists eligible individuals and families submit their utility bills (SoCal and SCE). Reviews, prepares and submits utility bill submissions in the system.
Information & Referral Provide information and refer community members to programs/services available, including APS referrals.
Forms Assistance Staff help complete simple forms such as Utility CARE Discount, Jury Duty, etc.
Translation Staff assist translate simple documents for the community.
Meeting Room Reservations Centers have meeting rooms available for reservation by organizations seeking to provide a service to the community.
Presentation/Workshops Centers have a variety of workshops that changes monthly.
Farmer’s Market Voucher Seniors receive vouchers to use at farmer’s markets.
Fitness Centers Exercise equipment available at the center such as treadmill, elliptical, etc.
Cooling Center If there is excessive high temperature, centers are activated as Cooling centers to provide relief from extreme heat conditions. The goal is to offer a safe, cool environment for those who might be at risk of heat-related illnesses.

Toy Loan Program DPSS Toy lending program that provides incentives to children in the community.
