Elderly Nutrition Program (ENP)

About the Program

The Older Americans Act (OAA) Elderly Nutrition Program (ENP) supports the health and well-being of older adults through nutrition services. The program helps reduce hunger and food insecurity, improve overall health, and create opportunities for social connection.

ENP offers meals in community settings and delivers meals to individuals who are unable to leave their homes.

Who It’s For?

Congregate Meals (Group Dining)

You may qualify if you are:

• Age 60 or older

• The spouse of a participant (any age)

• An individual with a disability who lives at a meal site or accompanies an eligible older adult.

 

Home-Delivered Meals

• You may qualify if you are:

• Age 60 or older and frail, homebound due to illness or disability, or isolated.

• The spouse of a participant.

• An individual with a disability living with an eligible older adult.

Program Details

The Following Service Categories Are Provided Under ENP:

Congregate Meals (Group Dining)

• Nutritious meals served in a group setting.

• Opportunities to socialize and connect with others.

• Nutrition education may be provided.

• Activities may be available before or after meals at some locations.

• Participants may choose to contribute toward the cost of meals. Contributions are voluntary, confidential, and do not affect eligibility or service quality.

Home-Delivered Meals

• Nutritious meals delivered to eligible individuals at home.

• Helps support independence and overall health.

• May include connections to other supportive services.

• Meals are typically delivered five days per week, with additional meals available depending on availability.

• Participants may choose to contribute toward the cost of meals. Contributions are voluntary, confidential, and do not affect eligibility or service quality.

How to Get Started

• Call 1 (800) 510-2020.

• Request enrollment in the Elderly Nutrition Program.

• Complete the intake process.

What to Expect

• Meals are provided through community sites or home delivery, depending on your needs.

• A minimum of five meals per week is provided.

• Home-delivered meal participants will receive an initial assessment.

• Some programs may require advance registration.

• Services are delivered through contracted providers across Los Angeles County.

 

Service Providers

ENP services are delivered through contracted agencies across Los Angeles County, including multiple congregate meal providers operating sites throughout all five Supervisorial Districts.

Common Questions

A minimum of five meals per week is provided for both congregate and home-delivered programs. Additional meals may be available depending on resources.

Culturally appropriate meals are available at designated sites.

Special diets are not available. However, meals are designed to be low in sodium and fat, and vegetarian options are offered.

Yes. Advance registration is required.

Meals are provided through multiple contracted agencies at sites across Los Angeles County, including senior centers and other community locations.

Yes. Some sites offer activities before or after meals.

An evaluation is conducted to determine if an individual is homebound due to illness, disability, or isolation.

Yes. An initial in-home assessment is conducted within a specified timeframe around the start of service.

Meal delivery will be placed on hold and will resume once you return home.

Meals may be delivered hot or frozen and are packaged to maintain safe temperatures and quality.

Meals are typically delivered in the morning.

• The meal will not be left without instructions

• You and your emergency contact will be notified

• A note will be left asking you to contact the provider

• Multiple missed deliveries without notice may result in service being discontinued
