Forging Digital Equality: Access to Technology (ATT) Program Launches

In today’s interconnected world, technology serves as a powerful tool for connection, information, and empowerment. However, ensuring equitable access to these resources is crucial to prevent anyone from being left behind. Introducing the Aging & Disabilities Department’s Access to Technology (ATT) Program, designed to cater to the diverse needs of older adults and individuals living with disabilities. This initiative is committed to providing them with essential digital connectivity, aiming to reduce isolation, foster social connections, and boost self-confidence. Moreover, it strives to enhance digital literacy among eligible participants.

Launched on April 15, 2024, the ATT Program offers a tailored solution, providing eligible individuals with a complimentary customized Samsung tablet (while supplies last), comprehensive online safety education, and two years of free 5G Internet service. Optional digital literacy courses are also available at no cost.

Community outreach events across the county are actively promoting program participation, exemplified by the Program’s presence at the Older Adults Resource Fair held at Potrero Heights Park Community & Senior Center on April 18 and many others.

This impactful initiative is made possible through the generous support of the California Department of Aging (CDA) and the Aging & Disabilities Department’s valued partnership with the L.A. County Department of Public Social Services (DPSS).

Eligibility criteria encompass individuals residing within Los Angeles County, who are 60 years of age or above, or 18 years of age and above who are living with a disability, and lacking access to a mobile computing device (excluding smartphones) or Internet connectivity.

Testimonials from program participants serve as poignant reminders of the impact of empowering individuals through digital connectivity.

Patricia, reflecting on her Harbor Device Pick-Up experience, expressed her gratitude: “I feel much safer now with this device. Your team was incredibly helpful, answering all my questions and assisting me in setting it up.”

Talene, after picking up a device from Hollywood WorkSource, conveyed her appreciation: “Thank you all for making this process so effortless. I’m thrilled to get my mom started on this device!”

At Willowbrook Senior Center, a recipient shared her thoughts on getting Internet access: “Having WiFi is truly a blessing, especially since many of my family members don’t have it. I believe this will make me easier accessible when they call me for help. It will make a significant difference.”

A female client from East Rancho Dominguez, as she concluded her survey: “You all have truly changed my life!”

Estella, also from East Rancho Dominguez, expressed her appreciation for the support: “This will make a real difference for my mom. Thank you so much for this opportunity.”
