Altadena Senior Center Hosts Heartwarming Thanksgiving Turkey Dinner Giveaway Event

On November 22, 2023, the Altadena Senior Center transformed into a hub of warmth and gratitude as it hosted a Thanksgiving Turkey Dinner Giveaway Event. This heartening initiative was a collaborative effort, orchestrated by AD’s congregate meals provider YWCA and Fifth District Supervisor Kathryn Barger’s annual “Day of Giving.”

Supervisor Barger’s commitment to community service was evident as her team organized the “Day of Giving” across five community sites, with the Altadena Senior Center at 560 E. Mariposa St., Altadena, CA 91001 being one of the locations.

Since 2016, Supervisor Barger and her dedicated team have been steadfast in supporting the endeavors of various nonprofit organizations and L.A. County senior centers in preparing and distributing Thanksgiving meals for their clients and the wider public. The “Day of Giving” has become an annual tradition, consistently taking place on the day before Thanksgiving.

The Altadena Senior Center event was a joyous occasion filled with music, laughter, and a sense of community. Attendees were treated to an array of entertaining games, including Jenga, bean bag toss, chess, and more, adding a festive spirit to the atmosphere.

A hot and delicious lunch, added to the festivities. Each guest received their own heat-and-serve turkey dinner, complete with mouth-watering sides such as mashed potatoes, gravy, and cranberry sauce, ensuring that everyone could enjoy a wholesome and traditional Thanksgiving meal.

The event not only provided nourishment for the body but also nourished the spirit of the community, fostering a sense of togetherness and appreciation. As the aroma of Thanksgiving filled the air, the Altadena Senior Center became a place of gratitude and shared joy.
