Why Should I Report

Most seniors and adults with disabilities live independently without assistance. However, some face abuse or neglect by others and need trained professionals to advocate on their behalf.

Others may simply be struggling with routine activities and could benefit from support services to maintain their health and independence.

APS services are intended to ensure the safety and well-being of these vulnerable adults by investigating reports of abuse and providing necessary interventions and support.

APS will initiate an investigation into the reported allegations of abuse, neglect, self-neglect, or exploitation. With the individual’s consent, APS will facilitate connections with supportive services. APS recognizes that every adult individual has the right to self-determination and APS cannot compel anyone to accept assistance except in specific circumstances. Due to confidentiality constraints, APS is unable to disclose specific information regarding ongoing or completed investigations. Additionally, APS lacks authority over facilities and cannot influence law enforcement investigations.

Do you, “just have a feeling” about a situation but can’t verify the details? APS professionals are trained to handle just such a situation.  Based on your report, the agency will assess the situation and determine how best to respond.  Your local APS agency can determine the best course of action in any given situation.
