Under the leadership of First District Supervisor Hilda L. Solis, the Aging & Disabilities Department partnered with the County Department of Parks and Recreation to engage with the Avocado Heights community.
The goal was to gather public input on older adult program priorities for the greater Avocado Heights area.
On July 25, 2023, the two departments jointly held a focus group at San Angelo Park to hear from the seniors directly about their desires, needs, and priorities on programs, activities, and services.
A flyer to promote the meeting was circulated by core senior partners and circulated to the Clean Air Coalition, Neighborhood Watch, and Workman Mill Homeowners Association for further distribution. Nearly thirty older adults participated in the meeting and provided valuable input.
“Meeting with our residents is critical to ensure that we address their needs,” said Billy Yeung, Program Manager for LA County’s Community and Senior Centers. “This focus group provided valuable insight into the Avocado Heights community’s priorities for older adult programs. We’re grateful for the leadership of Supervisor Solis and her office, and we appreciate our partnership with the County Department of Parks and Recreation.”
