Imparting Wisdom Through Mentoring

The Timeless Wisdom limited web series has been captivating viewers with its insightful and inspiring episodes, bringing valuable stories and perspectives to the forefront.

Since its recent launch, the series has featured several prominent guests, including Dr. Laura Trejo, Director of the Aging & Disabilities Department (AD). Hosted by Lisa M. Garrett, Director of Personnel at the County Department of Human Resources (DHR), the series highlights the invaluable contributions of experienced employees and the unique perspective they bring to the workforce.

In Episode 4, viewers are introduced to Trinh Mac, an Information Technology Consultant with the Aging & Disabilities Department. In this episode, Trinh shares her remarkable journey, from her early career with the County’s Internal Services Department (ISD) to her decision to retire early. But instead of stepping away for good, Trinh made the decision to return to the County workforce—not to continue her own career, but to mentor the next generation of IT professionals.

During her conversation with Lisa M. Garrett, Trinh discusses the lessons she’s learned throughout her career, her passion for mentoring, and why she felt compelled to come out of retirement to guide and inspire young IT personnel. She emphasizes the importance of passing on knowledge, not just technical skills, but also the wisdom that comes with experience, perspective, and navigating the challenges of a long career.

Timeless Wisdom serves as a powerful reminder of the value that older adult employees bring to the County of Los Angeles workforce. Through mentoring, sharing knowledge, and supporting the next generation of employees, experienced workers help shape the future of County service. The series continues to shine a light on the impact that seasoned professionals have in fostering growth, leadership, and innovation within our public service sector.
