Three programs from the Los Angeles County Aging & Disabilities Department (AD) have received 2025 Achievement Awards from the National Association of Counties (NACo), which annually recognizes innovative, effective county government programs nationwide.
Awarded in the Human Services category, the following initiatives were acknowledged for addressing critical needs among older adults and people with disabilities:
Access to Technology (ATT) Program In partnership with the Department of Public Social Services, this initiative distributed tablets and unlimited internet access to over 3,300 participants, helping reduce isolation and build digital confidence.
Building a Better Connection for Older Adults (BBCOA) This program connects older adults in underserved communities to digital tools and skills through youth-led training at County-operated Community and Senior Centers, helping foster engagement and reduce the digital divide.
New Freedom Transportation (NFT) Emergency Wildfire Assistance In response to the January 2025 wildfires, this program provided emergency, on-demand transportation for older adults and people with disabilities, ensuring continued access to essential services and disaster recovery support.
These awards highlight the department’s role in expanding access, improving equity, and adapting to the evolving needs of LA County’s aging and disability communities.
