2025 World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD)

Campaign Overview

June marks World Elder Abuse Awareness Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about the abuse, neglect, and exploitation of older adults. The month centers around World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) on June 15, a global observance launched by the World Health Organization (WHO) and supported nationally by the USC-based National Center on Elder Abuse (NCEA).

WEAAD is a call to action for communities everywhere to stand up for the rights and safety of older people.

In Los Angeles County, the Aging & Disabilities Department (AD) is proud to join this movement with a local campaign that honors older adults, people with disabilities, and caregivers—and reflects our commitment to building inclusive, protective, and respectful communities.

Throughout the month of June, we will share educational resources, raise public awareness, host a webinar, and lead community outreach events.

We invite caregivers, service providers, advocates, and residents across L.A. County to join us in recognizing WEAAD and standing together for elder justice.

2025 WEAAD Theme: “Dignity. Safety. Justice for All.”

This year’s theme—Dignity. Safety. Justice for All.”—is a unifying message that underscores the importance of protecting the rights of older adults, people with disabilities, and caregivers throughout Los Angeles County.

It reminds us that everyone deserves to live free from abuse, neglect, and exploitation—and reinforces our Department’s role as a champion for elder justice and inclusive services.

Together, we can create a County where dignity is honored, safety is ensured, and justice is accessible to everyone, regardless of age or ability.
