Antelope Valley Senior Center

Built in 1978, the Antelope Valley Senior Center is strategically located near several senior housing complexes and serves communities from Lancaster, Palmdale, Littlerock, Quartz Hill, Lake Los Angeles, and other surrounding unincorporated areas. The center offers a wide range of services and social activities providing opportunities for daily learning, skills enhancement, community engagement, socialization, and healthy living for older adult residents.

PROGRAM NAME	DESCRIPTION
Public Access Computers/Computer Lab	Computers and printers available for the public to use on their own or in a class setting; tablets available at some centers too.
Chair Exercises	All the execise is done while sitting and can include Yoga, stretch bands, etc.; varied dates and times.
Line Dancing	All exercise is taught to fun music in which a partner is not needed; varied levels, dates and times.
Square Dance	Class participants learn how to square dance to square dancing music while exercising; Beginners and Advanced classes varied dates and times.
Happy Singer	Groups that focuses practices singing to performance throughout the community.
Painting Class for Adults	Class teaches all levels to paint with different mediums; varied dates and times.
Needlepoint/Needlecraft/Embroidery	Class participants learn new/advanced techniques; varied dates and times.

PROGRAM NAME	DESCRIPTION
Emergency Food Assistance	The center coordinates, organizes and distributes food to provide food to low-income individuals, including the elderly and persons with disabilities. Maintains and prepares monthly reports to be submitted to the Food Bank.
Senior Foodbank	LA Regional Food Bank provides once a month food commodities to income/age eligible seniors.
Congregate Meals	Lunch meals on-site at centers for seniors.

PROGRAM NAME	DESCRIPTION
Youth Training Program	Provides at risk and disconnected youth with career exposure opportunities, resources and support to prepare them for future success centers are participating training sites.
Title V	Centers serve as training sites for subsidized part-time work for unemployed older adults (age 55 or older). Center directors provide training and supervision.

Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles (CHIRLA)	Immigration & citizenship classes available on-site.
Legal Assistance by Bet Tzedek	Bet Tzedek provides legal assistance to the seniors.

Billiards	Room dedicated to play pool.
Photography	Photography club for new and experienced photographers.
Dances	Events held at centers that include entertainment such as music to dance to and/or food, games, etc. This is an opportunity for community members to socialize with each other.

Riders/Seniors on the Move	Community members take the public transit to visit educational or culturally-rich sites.
Bingo/loteria	Game for seniors to play; varying dates and times.
Card/Board/Table Games	Bid Whist, Canasta, Chess, Checkers, Puzzles amongst others for seniors.
Field Trips	Community field trips to educational or culturally enriching venues/sites.
Movie Day	Community members gather to watch a movie together; varying dates/times through the month.

Holiday Giveaways/Seasonal Celebrations	Centers plan celebrations and activities around holidays (.eg. Halloween, Thanksgiving, & Christmas, etc.) that include giveaways and activities.
Wellness Fairs	Resources and activities that help bring health and wellness to the community for an event.
Emergency Preparedness Workshops	Centers help prepare the community in the event of an emergency.

Information & Referral	Provide information and refer community members to programs/services available, including APS referrals.
Forms Assistance	Staff help complete simple forms such as Utility CARE Discount, Jury Duty, etc.
Translation	Staff assist translate simple documents for the community.
Meeting Room Reservations	Centers have meeting rooms available for reservation by organizations seeking to provide a service to the community.
Presentation/Workshops	Provides coordination for various departments and presenters.
Farmer’s Market Voucher	Seniors receive vouchers to use at farmer’s markets.
Utility Assistance	Center assists eligible individuals and families submit their utility bills (SoCal and SCE). Reviews, prepares and submits utility bill submissions in the system.
Case Management – SCV Senior Center	Case Management for seniors.
Library	A quiet space for community members to access books to borrow or read at the centers.
Fitness Centers	Exercise equipment available at the center such as treadmill, elliptical, etc.
Cooling Center	If there is excessive high temperature, centers are activated as Cooling centers to provide relief from extreme heat conditions. The goal is to offer a safe, cool environment for those who might be at risk of heat-related illnesses.
