Powering Possibilities: Everyday Explorers Flip the Script

Celebrating L.A. County Senior Centers as Hubs of Discovery, Connection, and Bold Living

Campaign Overview

September is National Senior Center Month — a time to honor the powerful role senior centers play in promoting healthy aging, lifelong learning, and meaningful community connection.

In 2025, The Aging & Disabilities Department (AD) is proud to present “Everyday Explorers: Powering Possibilities” — a campaign inspired by our national partners at the National Council on Aging (NCOA) and a video feature we created. This year, we’re flipping the script on what it means to age, and celebrating the vibrant, unexpected adventures that unfold every day inside our senior centers.

Many of our centers are more than just gathering spaces for older adults — they are inclusive community hubs that also welcome and serve adults with disabilities, offering connection, enrichment, and support across ability and age.

Whether it’s learning a new dance, diving into tech, or simply sharing stories across generations, older adults in L.A. County aren’t slowing down — they’re boldly exploring what’s next.

Campaign Goals

Elevate visibility of L.A. County senior centers as dynamic, inclusive community hubs.

Challenge outdated stereotypes about aging through real stories of engagement and adventure.

Engage stakeholders, residents, and elected officials to advocate for continued investment in aging services.

Celebrate center staff and leadership, highlighting the creative programs and essential services they champion.

Amplify the bold, curious spirit of older adults and adults with disabilities — the Everyday Explorers who redefine what it means to age and thrive

Key Messages

Aging is living — boldly. Our centers support purpose, joy, and resilience.

Exploration has no age or ability limit. Every day at a center is a chance to grow, try something new, or connect.

Senior and community centers are essential. From wellness to technology, financial security to friendship, these spaces are vital for healthy, empowered aging and inclusion.

We flip the script. We challenge stereotypes, replace isolation with connection, and spark possibilities for older adults and people with disabilities.

The heart of our centers? Adventurous, curious Everyday Explorers — older adults and adults with disabilities who lead with joy, wisdom, and discovery.

Top Facts

L.A. County supports over 95 congregate meal sites serving more than 30,200 older adults annually.

AD oversees 13 community & senior centers resulting in over 306,765 total annual visits.

Nationally, nearly 11,000 centers serve 1 million+ older adults daily.

Studies show that social engagement through centers reduces isolation, improves health outcomes, and supports independent living.

1 in 3 participants say they tried something completely new at a senior center this year.
