Black History Month Resource Fair: A Celebration of Culture and Community

On Friday, February 21, 2025, the Los Angeles County Alan J. Martin Park came alive with the vibrant celebration of Black History Month. The Black History Month Resource Fair brought together individuals of all ages for an afternoon filled with cultural pride, community engagement, and educational opportunities.

Attendees enjoyed a lively atmosphere featuring arts and crafts exhibits, live performances, and various interactive activities that showcased the talents and traditions of the Black community. The event was not only a celebration of history, but also an opportunity to engage with local resources. Visitors explored booths offering valuable information on health, education, and social services specifically tailored to support the Black community.

The Aging & Disabilities (AD) Department’s information table attracted over 100 visitors who gained insight into the department’s programs and services. Maria Ponce, representing  Supervisor Hilda Solis’s First District, presented a certificate of participation to AD staff, acknowledging their dedication and outstanding service.

As the event came to a close, the community was energized and excited about future events. There was a collective sense of appreciation for the opportunity to come together and celebrate Black history and culture.

AD staff is already looking forward to next year’s event and the chance to build on the connections made this year. The spirit of unity is something we will carry with us as we work together to foster a supportive and inclusive community for all.
