Empowering Progress: Annual Abilities Expo Grows in Popularity

AD & LACCOD’s booth at the Annual Abilities Expo 2024

From March 15-17, 2024, West Hall A of the Los Angeles Convention Center was bustling with excitement.

The Annual Abilities Expo once again brought together individuals, families, advocates, and professionals from the disability community for a three-day event filled with cutting-edge technology, informative workshops, and interactive experiences.

Widely recognized as “The Event for the Disability Community,” the expo showcased the latest advancements in assistive technology and disability products. From mobility aids to communication devices, attendees had the opportunity to explore a wide array of tools designed to enhance independence and quality of life.

The Department of Aging & Disabilities (AD) in collaboration with the Los Angeles County Commission on Disabilities (LACCOD) participated as exhibitors.

Reflecting on the Abilities Expo, Commission President Carlos Benavides hailed it as a resounding success. “The record-breaking attendance this year signals a positive trend of increased engagement and interaction within the disability community,” he said.

Commissioner McClain interacting with visitors

Commissioner Deaka McClain, one of the Commission members manning our booth, emphasized the importance of the Commission’s role in advocating for the disability community’s needs. Visitors to the booth had the opportunity to voice their concerns and receive guidance on accessing essential services and resources. Commissioner McClain assured visitors that their feedback is valued and encouraged many to engage further by attending future Commission meetings.

Beyond the educational offerings, the Abilities Expo also featured interactive attractions, including adaptive climbing walls and demonstrations in sports, fitness, dance, and art.

Next year’s Abilities Expo is scheduled for March 28 -30, 2025. So, mark your calendars and please visit the their website for more information. See you next year!
