Antelope Valley Senior Center

The Centro Maravilla Service Center was established in 1974 to serve the East Los Angeles, Eastmont and Union Pacific unincorporated areas and other neighboring communities. The center offers a wide range of services and social activities providing opportunities for daily learning, skills enhancement, community engagement, socialization, and healthy living for residents of all ages.

PROGRAM NAME	DESCRIPTION
ARP Building a Better Connection for Older Adults (BBCOA) Program	The program consists of an 8-week comprehensive training course. The training empowers participants to bridge the digital divide thus facilitating access to social interactions, healthcare, and other essential services that had become elusive due to lack of technology knowledge. Upon completion of training, each participant is provided an Apple iPad with two-year data plan.
Public Access Computers/Computer Labs	Computers and printers available for the public to use on their own or in a class setting; tablets available at some centers too.
Cooking Class	Cooking Class for special needs individuals provided by Alma Family Services.

PROGRAM NAME	DESCRIPTION
Emergency Food Assistance	The center coordinates, organizes and distributes food to provide food to low-income individuals, including the elderly and persons with disabilities. Maintains and prepares monthly reports to be submitted to the Food Bank.

Youth Training Program	Provides at risk and disconnected youth with career exposure opportunities, resources and support to prepare them for future success centers are participating training sites.
Title V	Centers serve as training sites for subsidized part-time work for unemployed older adults (age 55 or older). Center directors provide training and supervision.

Entrepreneur Center	Department of Economic Department of Economic Opportunity collaborates with SBDC East LA to assist prospective business owners to successfully open and grow their small businesses in the unincorporated areas of the County.
Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk (RR)	Co-located at the center they provide birth, death and marriage certificates and licenses. Wedding ceremonies are available at the center.

Intergenerational Events	Centers plan fun activities around reading and authors focused on bringing youth and seniors together.
Wellness Fairs	Resources and activities that help bring health and wellness to the community for an event.
Homeless Count	Center hosts organizations and volunteers that go out and count the homeless population.
Holiday Giveaways/Seasonal Celebrations	Centers plan celebrations and activities around holidays (.eg. Halloween, Thanksgiving, & Christmas, etc.) that include giveaways and activities.
Voting Center/Drop-off Vote-by-Mail	Accessible voting is made available to the community at the centers.
Free Income Tax Preparation	Community organizations provide free income tax preparation to income eligible individuals and families and families.

Back to School Backpack Giveaway	School supplies and local resources provided to the community.

East Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce	Resources to the community and local businesses.

Utility Assistance	Center assists eligible individuals and families submit their utility bills (SoCal and SCE). Reviews, prepares and submits utility bill submissions in the system.
Forms Assistance	Staff help complete simple forms such as Utility CARE Discount, Jury Duty, etc.
Information & Referral	Provide information and refer community members to programs/services available, including APS referrals.
Translation	Staff assist translate simple documents for the community.
Meeting Room Reservations	Centers have meeting rooms available for reservation by organizations seeking to provide a service to the community.
Presentation/Workshops	Centers have a variety of workshops that change monthly.
Cooling Center	If there is excessive high temperature, centers are activated as Cooling centers to provide relief from extreme heat conditions. The goal is to offer a safe, cool environment for those who might be at risk of heat-related illnesses.
