September has been a month filled with joy, connection, and discovery as we celebrated National Senior Center Month at our Community and Senior Centers. At the heart of this year’s celebration was the video, Playdates Are Not Just for Children, a reminder that the excitement of new adventures doesn’t end with age.
AD’s senior centers are vibrant hubs of engagement, offering activities that fostered connections across generations. Whether through art, shared meals, or meaningful interactions, the sense of community was palpable.
Inspired by these stories, we proudly launched Center Stage: The People of L.A. County’s Senior Centers, a video vignette series showcasing the incredible individuals who make AD’s centers so special.
Take Leila for example, a beloved volunteer art teacher and power-walking instructor at the Potrero Heights Park Community and Senior Center. For years, she has been guiding older adults in exploring their creative side, helping them discover new passions while building friendships in a welcoming, supportive space.
At the Los Nietos Community and Senior Center, Luz’s story is equally heartwarming. As one of our congregate meal providers, Luz not only prepares meals but also enjoys them alongside fellow program participants. Her dual role as both provider and customer exemplifies the deep sense of belonging and community spirit that defines AD’s senior centers.
As we reflect on the events of Senior Center Month, the connections built, and the lives touched, we invite you to revisit the moments that made this month special. Keep an eye out for upcoming video profiles that will cover all AD senior centers, featuring the vibrant communities we continue to build together.
