AD in the News: CalMatters Publishes Commentary by AD Director Maral Karaccusian

L.A. County Aging & Disabilities Department (AD) Director Maral Karaccusian authored a guest commentary for CalMatters discussing California’s proposed changes to the state’s funding formula for aging services and what they could mean for older adults in Los Angeles County.

In the commentary, Karaccusian explains why the County is concerned the proposal could reduce funding for critical services, including nutrition programs that help older adults remain healthy, connected, and independent. While supporting the state’s goal of modernizing the funding formula, she encourages additional testing to ensure it reflects real-world demand and the needs of high-service regions like Los Angeles County.

“As California updates its funding formula, we have an opportunity to ensure it reflects the realities facing communities across the state,” Karaccusian writes. “This isn’t an argument against change. It’s an argument for getting it right.”
